What is labneh?

It is strained yogurt that can be served as a dip, spread, or condiment with vegetables, fruit, bread and more.

Stir together the yogurt and salt in a large bowl.

Place a fine mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth over a bowl.  Then spoon in the yogurt.

Make a tight bundle by gathering the ends of the cheesecloth and tying a knot on top.

Place a can on the bundle. The weight will help press out the whey from the yogurt. Let it sit in the fridge for 24 hours to give it plenty of time to strain.

When you untie the bundle, you will see the consistency of the yogurt is thicker and is now spreadable.

You can serve labneh savory topped with herbs and olive oil and with fresh vegetables and pita bread. Or serve it sweet with fruit, honey and nuts.
